Donation of a portrait of Gustave Neuburger
The collections of the Maison de Tante Léonie - Musée Marcel Proust have recently been enriched thanks to the donation of the portrait, by Fernand Cormon (a painter exhibited notably at the Musée d'Orsay), of Gustave Neuburger (1836-1914), second husband of Laure Lazarus, first cousin of Jeanne Proust.
One of the couple's daughters, Louise, married Henri Bergson in 1892.
Director of the Rothschild bank, Gustave Neuburger was one of the managers of Proust's finances, as Jean-Yves Tadié recalls in Proust et la Société.
He was also the uncle of Lionel Hauser, who was one of Marcel Proust's principal financial advisors.
This donation was generously granted to us by M. Antoine Hyafil, great-grandson of Gustave Neuburger.
The painting will be presented shortly at the Musée Marcel Proust - Maison de Tante Léonie.
