Here are a few Proustian events taking place in the days ahead:
- Tuesday 22 October, at 7pm, at the Bibliothèque Parmentier (Paris XIe), Jean-Yves Tadié will give a lecture on the relationship between Marcel Proust and André Gide. This lecture is the first in a series organised on one Tuesday each month by Martine Debieuvre, Deputy Mayor for culture, heritage and memory, and a member of our society. It will be followed by Evelyne Bloch-Dano (17 December), Luc Fraisse (17 March), Thierry Laget (19 May) and myself (21 April). The town hall of the 11th arrondissement is also organising, on 28 November, in the salle des fêtes, a study day on Proust and Gide. You will find more information on this website (p. 5 of the pdf document; the town hall has also informed us that Pierre Masson's lecture, on 19 November, has changed since the publication of this leaflet, and will now focus solely on André Gide).
- On 26 and 27 October, a weekend "Proust et le Goncourt" will take place in Cabourg, during which the Académie Goncourt will announce the list of the four finalists for 2019. Several "Proustian" authors will take part in the book fair to be held on Sunday 27th.
- On Monday 28 October at 11pm, viewers in Normandy will be able to watch, on France 3 Normandie, Christian Clères's documentary entitled « J’aime pas Proust », in which the director sets out to meet various readers in an attempt to understand what they love about Proust.
- On Wednesday 6 November at 7:30pm, at the hôtel Le Swann (Paris VIIIe), Laure Hillerin will present her new book « Pour le plaisir et pour le pire ; la vie tumultueuse d’Anna Gould et Boni de Castellane », in which Marcel Proust is mentioned. Information on this website.
- On Saturday 9 November at 3pm, at the community centre of the 16th arrondissement of Paris, Michel Damblant, author of « Voyage botanique et sentimental du côté de chez Proust », is organising a lecture on "the secrets of the love life of plants", drawing on texts from A la recherche du temps perdu. This lecture is given in aid of the association « La deuxième marche », which helps people in serious social difficulty (admission and participation free). Click on this link to see the poster.
- On Wednesday 13 November at 2:30pm at the École normale supérieure, a session of the ITEM-CNRS genetic editing seminar will be held on draft notebook no. 2, open to all.
- On Wednesday 20 November at 8:30pm, at the auditorium of the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille, Stéphane Chaudier will chair a round table bringing together Luc Fraisse, the novelist Eric Laurrent and myself, on the theme « Que reste-t-il des Jeunes filles en fleurs ? Proust et son prix Goncourt, cent ans après ». Information on this website.
- On Thursday 21 November at 5:30pm, at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie (Paris XIXe), as part of the TimeWorld 2019 conference, Antoine Compagnon will give a lecture entitled « Qu’entend Proust par le Temps retrouvé ? ». Information on this website.
- On Monday 2 December at the Salle Cortot (Paris XVIIe), a recital of works for violin and piano from Proust's era will be given. The concert is entitled « Le temps retrouvé », and the organisers are offering SAMP members a reduced rate of 15 euros (instead of 20): to obtain it, on this website, choose "full price" then tick the box "you have a discount code" and enter, in the "payment" tab, the code PROUST0212.
In addition, a few places remain for the members' day, on 30 November 2019, in Illiers-Combray, during which, on the one hand, we will be presented with the planned works at the Maison de Tante Léonie and, on the other, Jean-Yves Tadié will talk about his forthcoming book « Marcel Proust, croquis d’une épopée ». Registration on this page.
Finally, an Extraordinary General Meeting will be convened on Wednesday 4 December, at 5:30pm, at the Collège de France, in order to deliberate on a revision of our association's statutes. This revision pursues several objectives: removing certain obsolete provisions, slightly increasing the number of board members (from 18 to 21), giving legal status to the Bulletin's editorial team, and allowing the Board of Directors to deliberate electronically in cases of emergency. You will shortly receive the notice of meeting and the draft new statutes.
Yours faithfully,
Jérôme Bastianelli
