As part of the Rencontres des Amis de Marcel Proust, the literary hotel Le Swann and the Société des Amis de Marcel Proust welcome Olivier Philipponnat, publisher of the new edition of Louis de Robert's Roman du malade, to look back on this text and its singular fate.

Published in 1911 and awarded the Prix Femina that same year, Le Roman du malade tells the story of a young writer overtaken by illness, sent to Switzerland for treatment before living, on the Basque coast, a last love. Marcel Proust admired the book, and its author, Louis de Robert, played a decisive part in the birth of the Recherche: it was to him that Proust turned for advice before the publication of Du côté de chez Swann, and he was its first reader in proof.

The novel is reissued on 17 September 2026 by Archipoche, in an edition with a preface by Jérôme Bastianelli, President of the Société des Amis de Marcel Proust.
