Performance - "Monsieur Proust de Céleste Albaret" by Marianne Denicourt
Céleste Albaret was Marcel Proust's housekeeper during the last eight years of his life, during which he completed the writing of his masterpiece − she is moreover one of the inspirations for the character of Françoise in La Recherche. Day and night, Céleste Albaret cared for Marcel Proust. But more than a mere housekeeper, she was also his sole confidante and the one who supported the author in the writing of his work.
After Proust's death in 1922, Céleste Albaret long refused to share her memories. Then, at eighty-two, she decided to pay this final tribute to the man who used to tell her: "It is your lovely little hands that will close my eyes."
Marianne Denicourt will read extracts from Monsieur Proust, plunging us, as though we were there, into Proust's bedroom (which was his room for writing and for living), in complete intimacy with the man and the writer.
Adaptation based on Céleste Albaret's conversations with Georges Belmont.
