Weekend "Proust et le Goncourt", 26 and 27 October 2019 in Cabourg
This event, which will take place on 26 and 27 October 2019, serves two objectives:
- To celebrate, in an original way, the centenary of the prix Goncourt awarded to Proust in 1919 for A l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs: the specific event chosen is the final selection of nominees for the 2019 Goncourt, which will be announced by the full académie Goncourt, on Sunday 27 October, at the Grand Hôtel de Cabourg.
- To further establish Cabourg as the "capital" of the Belle Époque period and the Proustian world. It already enjoys a unique history with Marcel Proust, who stayed there from 1907 to 1914, and an exceptional heritage with the Grand Hôtel, inaugurated in its current form on 7 July 1907 (its façade is listed as a Historic Monument), the casino, and Cabourg's Belle Époque villas. The Journées Musicales Marcel Proust, since 2012, have been working towards this goal, and the 2020 edition of the Journées Musicales Marcel Proust will be one of its strongest links. In 2020, two Belle Époque events will mark the year in Cabourg. Chronologically, these are the publication of Jean-Paul Henriet's book on the town's Belle Époque and Proustian villas, at Easter 2020, and, above all, the opening, in the second half of the year, of the Villa du Temps Retrouvé, the town's future Belle Époque - Marcel Proust museum.
