ITEM-CNRS genetic editing seminar / postponed

The ITEM-CNRS genetic editing seminar will this year be devoted to Cahier 2, one Wednesday a month, starting on 16 October, at the École Normale Supérieure.

A collective project of international scope, the edition of the « Cahiers 1 à 75 de la Bibliothèque nationale de France » (Brepols-BnF) gives access to Marcel Proust's workshop. Seminar participants discover or deepen their knowledge of the methodology of critical editing as applied to modern manuscripts: learning to read a manuscript notebook fluently with the support of digital images from the BnF, revising a diplomatic transcription, genetic and critical contextualisation with a view to annotation, and clarifying literary, historical and cultural allusions. It is also an opportunity to become familiar with the habits, rhythms and idiosyncrasies of a very great writer at work.–

No prior specialisation is required for this training seminar. In 2019-2020, we will undertake a fresh reading of Cahier 2, one of the earliest notebooks of the Contre Sainte-Beuve.

One may read the Inventory of Cahier 2 by Kazuyoshi Yoshikawa in the BIP, n° 9, spring 1979.

Validation by attendance as part of the ENS diploma (S1 and S2, 3 ECTS).

Wednesdays, 2.30pm-4.30pm, ENS, salle des historiens IHMC (staircase C, 3rd floor).

Sessions on 16 October, 13 November, 11 December, 15 January, 12 February, 18 March, 15 April and 13 May.
